Should I rent a car?
In short - we do not recommend driving.
Driving in Jamaica requires adapting to the local driving rules and habits. Driving in Jamaica is on the left side of the road (opposite of the U.S). This requires a certain level of adaptation and dexterity. There are many unspoken rules of the road that can be daunting to someone who has never driven in Jamaica. Please drive at your own risk, if you decide to.
How does currency/money work in Jamaica?
Most major credit cards are accepted at larger establishments. However, cash will be needed for parts of your trip. Although you can use USD at a lower rate, we encourage you to exchange cash prior to landing in Jamaica. This can be done at your local bank or credit union in the United States. Should you need to transfer money while in Jamaica, you can visit the local Western Union or other money transfer locations. Also, please note, many Jamaican prices at the local market and in the taxi are negotiable. So feel VERY comfortable with talking prices down if you feel they are unfair.
