Our Love Story

KELVIN:

I first noticed Maya at the annual district convention in Birmingham, Al at the age of 14. During the 3 day convention, I would always see her and looked forward to seeing her every day. I was too nervous to say anything to her so I used to give her the eye to let her I know I was interested. A couple years later, I built up the courage to shoot my shot. We exchanged numbers and we kept in touch for a short amount of time but after a year or so, we lost contact. Although we were no longer in direct contact we remained friends on social media. I would like pictures of her and make comments to get her attention but nothing prevailed. Although she wouldn't give me any play, I still felt that one day we would end up together. I remember telling myself I would try one more time to get her attention but it didn't work so I stopped trying. A couple years passed and she reached out to me regarding the state nurses exam(NCLEX). I looked at the DM thinking to myself, "What?! She can't be messaging me!" The flame that we both thought had burned out was rekindled and we have been inseparable since. If I had a chance to rewrite this love story, the only thing that I would change is the amount of time not spent together.

MAYA:

Kelvin's story is partially right for the most part. We both had a mutual liking for one another. At the age of 12, my cousin Hillary and I would intentionally find Kelvin and his cousins during the JW Convention intermission. I never had the courage to say anything to him, so for years we just walked pass each other smiling, Lol.

Eventually Kelvin made the pass to approach me, and we exchanged numbers at that moment. We talked on the phone and eventually lost contact. We lost contact, but it seems as though, he was always showing up in the picture. My grandmother and grandfather were both hospitalized back in 2011-2012 and he was their nurse, both times! Our families have always known each other so my aunt always wanted to play match maker. Little did she know, we had already tried to match up in our younger days.

We remained friends on social media and Kelvin would always reach out to me. He would like a post or send a DM and I was just not having it UNTIL the messages stopped. I started to think to myself "AHT AHT, where he at"? LOL! In 2017, I reached out to him about the NCLEX (not really needing his help, but just wanting to spark a conversation), and the rest has been history. I found my happily ever after, and there is no one else in this world I'd rather share a love story with.
