COMING FROM M5 SOUTHBOUND …
SCENIC COASTAL ROUTE (INCLUDING THE 1:4 PORLOCK HILL)
Leave the M5 at Junction 23 (Bridgwater) and join the A38 / A39 through the town and on towards Minehead. Follow this road for approximately 50 miles to Lynmouth. At the Glen Lyn Gorge in Lynmouth, follow the road round to the right, signed for Lynton with a restriction on lorries and trailers. Up a steep hill, look out for a sharp, almost hairpin, right turn, again signed “Lynton”. Follow the road all the way through the village of Lynton and out into the spectacular coastal “Valley of Rocks”. About 1 mile after leaving Lynton, you will enter the Lee Abbey estate, and then the main entrance is signposted on the right hand side.

EASIER ROUTE ON LARGER ROADS
Leave the M5 at Junction 27 (Tiverton), and take the A361 towards Barnstaple. At the North Aller Roundabout just after South Molton, turn right onto the A399, signed Lynton. At Blackmoor Gate, turn right onto the A39 and continue following signs to Lynton. On entering Lynton, you will come down a steep hill and round a tight right-hand hairpin bend. After this, follow the road left and then at the end turn left again (both turnings signed “Valley of Rocks”). The road will go out of the village into a dramatic coastal valley. About 1 mile after leaving Lynton, you will enter the Lee Abbey estate, and then the main entrance is signposted on the right hand side.

If you have an electric car we now have two charging points – please ask at reception how to use these when you arrive. There is a charge for their use.

If you dont have a way of coming by car:

Firstly let us know we may be able to find someone willing to give you a lift.

If not you can book taxi’s from taunton train station in advance

Or you can get a bus or train to Barnstable and then a 309/310 bus to Lynton and walk to lee abbey from there. This is not very regular so would take you a lot longer.
