About Bruny Island
Getting to the wedding
The wedding is to be held at The Bruny Island Lodge in South Bruny Island. From the airport it's a 2hr drive with half this time actually driving on Bruny Island between the north and south. On the island there are lots of lookouts, activities and most importantly food along the way so plan some time for stops!
Yey we're going overseas!
Currently there is no pre-bookings available and it's arrive and wait system however we have heard they are planning on commencing bookings at some point. The holiday period is busy so so keep an eye out closer to the time to book.
Also if hiring a car make sure you check insurance covers Bruny island Ferry.
Hiring a car
Getting around Hobart it's is easy without a car. There are taxis, the ferry to MONA and a lot of nice walking spots. However getting to Bruny does generally requires a car or car pooling. Some of the roads around the wedding require a fairly capable car so we do recommend car pooling and getting SUV type vehicles.
Only a few hire companies insure for Bruny so check before booking.
These companies have pick ups both at the airport and in the city and all say they allow Bruny Island travel...
Hertz, Avis, Alamo, National, Enterprize
There are quite a lot of accomodation options ranging from camp grounds, houses, beach cottages and isolated retreats. A majority of this accomodation is located in Adventure Bay which is very central to activities but about 30-40mins from our wedding. We are going to attempt to have a small mini bus helping people back to accomodation after the wedding however this will be limited to nearby Lunawanna/Cloudy Bay region. We ask that you consider that area for at least the night of the wedding unless you plan on driving. We have already booked some properties and can help with this process and recommendations for your size group. Some still available options are listed below but feel free to contact us for advice or if you want to team up with another group and split the cost.

If staying for a few days left and right of the wedding you should consider self catering your essentials. All of the hire houses have vast kitchens and BBQs for this purpose. There is a general store at both Alonnah and Adventure Bay which has basic groceries as well as fish and chips, burgers etc. However mostly there is no shops on Bruny.
What Bruny is famous for is gourmet local produce so check out these ones below (mostly all along the main road).

Bruny Island is famous for its natural beauty and unspoiled wilderness. There are some amazing hikes and beach walks, bike trails, watersports and surfing, the lighthouse, the famous instagram spot 'the neck', bird watching, scenic flights, stargazing, history sites and guided tours. I highly recommend the Pennicott wilderness cruise where you travel around the huge shear cliffs and get amongst an array of wild sea life (warm spray jackets are provided)
As many of you know Tassie's weather is very variable. Plan for hot, cold, wind and rain!
Good walking shoes if your hiking. If you plan on going to see the penguins come up the beach at night add extra warmth like a beanie and gloves.
If your travelling with children you may wish to hire equipment such as prams, portacribs etc. this company delivers to you at the airport when you arrive.
