NB CAR DOCUMENTS REQUIRED
Drivers of South African-registered cars crossing SA borders must carry, copy and present:
*3rd party insurance ±R280.00. Buy this online pre-trip: HOLLARD 3rd Party OR ASKARI 3rd Party
*Temporary import permit *should you be towing a boat/trailer/wet bike etc. ±R150.00.
*Originals OR Certified copy of Vehicle Registration/vehicle licence papers (Copies must be stamped by a Commissioner of Oaths)
*Valid Drivers License
*A letter of permission from your vehicle insurance company stating that you may take your car into Mozambique and will still remain covered whilst there.
*If you are still paying off your vehicle; the car must be accompanied by a letter from the bank giving authorisation to take the vehicle across the border and must indicate dates of travel. Both the bank letter and licence papers should be signed by a Commissioner of Oaths.
*If the driver of the vehicle is not the owner of the vehicle; an affidavit from the police giving authorisation from the financial institution/owner to take the vehicle abroad is required, along with certified copies of the owners Passport &/ ID.
*If the car is rented; the driver must have a letter from the rental company giving permission to take the vehicle out of the country.
Driving from JHB (+-8 hours)
You can drive your car to Kosi Bay Border & park your car (±R60 p/d). Book a Border Shuttle (±R200 p/p - see details below to book a shuttle) or hop in with a mate. We do suggest that you have shared access to a car while in the Ponta Malongane area.
2 ROUTE OPTIONS
Route 1: JHB via Jozini Dam using Kosi Bay Border (not a toll road, pot holes & stop & go’s, add another ±1hr) Kosi Bay is relaxed atmosphere and easy (±30mins Max)
Route 2: JHB via Nelspruit using Komatipoort Border (easy toll roads/highway all the way)
Komatipoort is always a busy boarder, not for the faint hearted, expect ques (±1-2 hr MAX)
Border times are 06h00 – 22h00, strictly (allocate extra time for busy border)

*If you do “bring” meat, it is at your own risk but; vacuum pack & freeze before the journey.
*GOING back into RSA. If you buy Wooden CARVINGS & FRESH FOOD; RSA officials have know to search cars and confiscate any items found.

GETTING CONNECTED
CELL PHONES & RECEPTION
There is NO RSA RECEPTION in Mozambique, therefore we suggest switch off and enjoy the downtime! But if you do need some internet/phone access, most Shebeens/Restaurants have WIFI hotspots, but here are some alternatives;

Moz Internet/WIFI is slower than what we are used to, so just chill!

Ponta Malongane is classified as a LOW Risk Malaria Area
The choice of taking prophylactics is up to you (personally we have never taken in 16 years)
