The capital city of Mallorca has so much to offer that we could not fit it all in this website. Great bars, restaurants, shopping and sights.
Check out the Cathedral, the shops around Jaime III and Borne, and the cobblestone streets around the old town area of La Lonja and just let yourself get lost in this great city.
Here is just the tip of our recommendations.
Restaurants and Bars
Taberna de La Boveda – Tapas on the sea front, book ahead.
Marc Fosh - For a more special dinner. Michelin starred, Mallorcan influence. Book ahead.
Abaco - Beautiful and opulent cocktail bar with piles of fruit and flowers spilling over the floor. Great for a drink after/before dinner and they also do great desserts. Sit in the courtyard outside and make sure you pop your head around the house.
Cappuccino San Miguel - Another cappuccino but this is in a particularly spectacular building with a beautiful courtyard. Perfect to nip in to during your shopping in Palma for a cold drink and snack (located off the Placa Major).
Santa Catalina Area – The Santa Catalina area in Palma is absolutely buzzing in the evening and there are lots of nice wine bars and restaurants to choose from, like Duke.
Mercat 1930 - a great gastronomic market with food choices for all tastes. It's made up of individual food stalls offering anything from oysters to pizza!
Es Baluard - great views over Palma bay and great cocktails.
Beach Bars/Bars/Clubs
Puro Beach Palma - located on the outskirts of Palma, offers a great beach club vibe by the seaside.
Assaona - Good for lunch or dinner at night as well. We highly recommend the truffle pasta!
Nightlife
Hostal Cuba - This is where the locals gather every Friday and Saturday night. Start with drinks on the rooftop, then dinner on the ground level and dance the night away in the lower ground club.
Idem - this bar may be small but makes up for it in the vibe and burlesque atmosphere.
Social - the coolest club in Palma, it gets going after 1am!
Beautiful natural port with lots of great restaurants and shops to wander around, located 25 minutes from Illetas and 35 minutes from Palma.
Restaurants
Villa Italia - Fantastic restaurant with beautiful views over the port. Perfect for a more special dinner and booking ahead is recommended.
Rocamar - Modern Mallorcan restaurant on the water front in the port. Booking ahead is recommended.
Sumailla - Asian/Peruvian restaurant on the water front. Excellent food. Booking ahead is recommended.
Bars/Cafes
Tims Bar - Great for drinks, cocktails and snacks. Right on the water front.
Cappuccino - Great for coffee/dessert after dinner, snacks and drinks. Right on the water front.
If you plan to do some exploring further afield from Palma and Illetas we recommend that you rent a car and visit some of the island's most beautiful villages and beaches.
Soller – Beautiful town and port.
Valldemossa – This town is straight out of a postcard!
Deia – Beautiful town in the mountains, the locals are primarily artists and it shows. Have a drink on the terrace at Belmond La Residencia and just take in all the surrounding beauty.
Playa Es Trenc – It may seem like you are in the Caribbean in this beach with white sand and turquoise water. It gets particularly busy at weekends and be warned that there are nudist sections.
