Liz and I met back in 2013 at a party. Yes, you read that right. Not too long after graduating from college, my friends and I started promoting a weekly party called “Houston Live.” Now, let me tell you this, we really had Houston live! You see what I did there? Ok sorry, let me continue. Now, we hosted Houston Live every Friday. Yes, EVERY Friday. So while it was cool, it was taxing physically to have to be there all the time.
One Friday, I found myself posted up by the bar trying to stay out of the way. I received a phone call from a friend of mine who needed some help getting some friends of his inside of the venue. One of these friends happened to be Liz. I noticed her right at the entrance. To be honest, she peeped me too, but that’s neither here nor there. Luckily enough, a mutual friend of ours introduced us once we were all inside. Liz and I briefly got to know each other and exchanged numbers before the night was over. At the time, Liz was in school in Austin, so we were only able to go on one date before she had to head back. It was a simple date. A simple date that led to eight years of priceless memories.
I am forever grateful for that one phone call that I received back in 2013. Since then, Liz has been such an instrumental part of my life. She has been my biggest supporter in everything that I do. It is amazing to sit back and reflect on the these past eight years. We’ve truly grown so much together. I’m looking forward to creating many more memories and growing with my best friend!
Chester & I met in December 2013. I was home (Houston) from college (Austin) for winter break. A couple of days after Christmas one of my friends invited me to go to a party with another one of her friends. When we got to the party we had difficulty getting inside. There was a long line. It was advertised as “Free before 11pm”. We got there maybe 30 minutes before 11pm. When we got to the front of the line it was 11pm so we were asked to pay. My friend was quite reluctant. She texted her boyfriend at the time and told him about our situation. Her boyfriend called his friend/fraternity brother to come rescue us from the line. That friend was, Chester! He came to the front of the line and got us in the party for free!! We got to save our $10 or $20!
I noticed Chester was a nice, handsome, cool guy. He happened to be family friends with one of the girls I was there with. Of course, I had to get the 411 on him lol. I liked what I heard. Before the night was over, I asked her to introduce us. Chester was actually nowhere in sight for majority of the night. Just when we were getting ready to leave, we ran into him. She introduced us. We exchanged numbers.
He called me 3 days later. The conversation was a bit dry and brief. We talked again a few days before I went back to school (Austin). We arranged to meet up for "drinks" before I left. It was casual. I don't think I really refer to this as our first date because of that. The food and drinks were good. The conversation was even better. & Then, the rest is history!.......
Chester has been my "personal person" throughout the years. He is my best friend and more than I ever prayed for in a life partner. As I look back at the past 8 years, I can’t imagine what those years would have been like without him and when I think about my future I can’t imagine a life without him. I'm so grateful to God that our paths crossed. I'm excited as we embark on this journey as Husband & Wife.
Background info: During the pandemic I started blogging. I turned Chester into my designated photographer. Honestly, he was into it in the beginning but sometimes I could tell it felt more like a chore for him. The last time we had a photoshoot things got heated to say the least.
About 2-3 weeks later he apologized for how things went during our last photoshoot. To make up for it he told me he got a professional photographer to take my pictures. I thought it was the sweetest gesture. I had 6 days to get ready for this photoshoot. I felt like I didn’t have enough time to get my looks together. I tried to postpone the photoshoot multiple times. The photographer said she was booked. I didn’t want to turn down a sweet gesture.
During the photoshoot the photographer told me she had 3 locations. By the time we got to the 3rd location I was tired but excited because it was a nice roof top. The photographer opened the door leading to the roof top. As I walked in, I saw rose petals down the walkway, candles on the floor, and simultaneously heard a Saxophonist playing “This is why I love you”.
That’s when I realized it was finally happening! I cried and then put on my heels because I was still wearing flats at that point. I walked around to see my soon to be fiancé who was standing next to huge letters saying “Marry me” with roses in his hands. It was perfect! He asked & I said yes!! I laughed and jumped in excitement and amazement of what just took place. Then we danced. We prayed. It was just us. It was beautiful❤️
Then there was a surprise engagement party…After we left the roof top. I was calling all my close friends and family members to tell them what just took place. None of them answered their phones. It was kind of frustrating. Then Chester told me he had a private dinner planned. I quickly stopped calling them. I got in the uber. It drove us to a house.
Again, there were rose petals from the gate to the door. I was thinking “Mann he went all out!” He opened the door and immediately I heard “Surprise!” I saw our close friends & family! My knees gave out! I fainted. It was the best surprised ever. The whole proposal was way more than I ever imagined. It was truly one of the happiest days of my life.
