Transport: Uber is not available in Puglia, so local taxis need to be pre-booked. Details have been shared in the other sections on this page.

Money: We would advise bringing cash. Whilst card is accepted, cash is still needed for some bars and taxi services. We've been caught out a few times!

EasyJet, RyanAir, and British Airways have flights available to either Brindisi or Bari airport.

Renting a Car

If you want to extend your trip in Puglia we suggest renting a car with any of the major car rental agencies - Avis, Maggiore and EuropeCar - located in both airports. EXPLORING PUGLIA

For day trips, there is a good train service running along the coast connecting Polignano a Mare, Monopoli, Fasano, and Lecce.

Monopoli
Monopoli is one of our favourite places we have stayed in. It's a very quintessential southern Italian town, with a lot of good restaurants and beautiful beaches. It is within easy driving distance of many of the area’s biggest attractions and villages, making Monopoli a great base to explore Puglia if you are hoping to extend your trip. It is also about a 15 minute drive from the venue.

Polignano a Mare
The photo on the left is Polignano a Mare's famous beach. It's a cliffside town with a very beautiful old town with lots of cliff side bars and restaurants to try out. Definitely worth spending an evening here!

Ostuni
A 20min drive from Monopoli, Ostuni is an inland town known as the 'white city'. We visited Ostuni for dinner and is a great place to spend half a day exploring. It's made up of a maze of alleyways, staircases and arches with views across the sea and surrounding olive trees. We didn't stay in Ostuni but there are a lot of very nice hotels and Masseria's nearby - worth exploring if you are extending your trip.

Alberobello
Alberobello village is 20mins from Monopoli. A UNESCO heritage site, it is known for its unique tiny Trulli houses. A bit of a tourist hot spot but definitely worth a visit.

Matera
We didn't get to visit Matera when we were in Puglia but it is meant to be one of the most interesting and unusual towns in Italy. Another UNESCO heritage site, it is famous for its extensive cave-dwelling districts, which have been inhabited for centuries. You can stay in the caves or spend the day wandering the lanes along the cave-filled cliffs.

Lecce
It is known as the Florence of Southern Italy and probably one of the most beautiful towns we visited during our trip to Puglia. The old town is protected from cars so is a great place to walk around the alleyways, explore the piazzas and their many many wine bars. You can easily explore the Salento region from Lecce - this is the very Southern point of the 'boot' and has some amazing beaches, including Porto Cesareo and Punta Prosciutto (referred to as the Maldives of Europe).

Alimini
Close to Otranto which is one of the main towns in the south of the region, it's a good place to stay if you want to extend your trip and have some beach time. The water here is protected so is good for kitesurfing and windsurfing.

Savelletri
If you want to treat yourself to a nice hotel, Savelletri is home to six of Puglia's most luxurious Masseria hotels. It is a laid-back fishing town and seaside resort. There are a lot of nearby beach clubs, including Coccaro Beach Club. Two of the best hotels in this area are: Borgo Egnazia and Masseria San Domenico.
