I finally made the big move down to Texas to start a new job. Little did I know that I would meet my husband. Most importantly, we met each other doing what we love the most, working with children. As elementary school principals, we connected on so many levels; professionally, personally, and spiritually.
Our first outing was on South Padre Island. I call it fate because all of our friends backed out at the last minute leaving it to be just me and him. It was a divine connection, just the two of us cooling it on the beach! That was the most perfect day with my perfect guy! The rest was history!
The Proposal:
It is truly hard to surprise me because I usually know everything. I do not know how he pulled it off. That day he came to my job and bought me my favorite lunch from a taco spot we both love. I did not notice anything different because Jarvis is romantic on the regular. As I was driving home, I called him to let him know I was on the way and that I would walk our dog when I get home. As I open the door, our home was turned into a romantic kingdom. Flowers, candles and a huge "will you marry me?" sign with notes about things that he loves about me. He got down on one knee and popped the question. It was one of the best moments of my life.

Leaving New Orleans after almost ten years was one of the toughest decisions of my life. Little did I know it would lead me to meet the most incredible person I’ve ever met. Arriving in rural South Texas, there were so many adjustments to make. There were no go-cups, no second lines, no skyline, and no Mardi Gras. But there was a Jem!
We met as elementary school principals sent to South Texas for a year to train before transferring to Houston to found two schools. Spending a year in an unfamiliar city, without friends or family was tough to say the least. But having Jem by my side every day made the transition well worth it! What started as spending every weekday together at work became spending our weekends together exploring Texas and getting to know each other and ultimately falling in love. From exploring Mexico to enjoying the beach at South Padre Island, our connection and love grew stronger with each adventure and every passing day.
Asking Jem to marry me was the easiest and best decision I’ve ever made. I’m blessed and honored that she said yes! I’ve even converted Jem into a Miami Hurricane fan! We’ve spent nearly every day together for almost two years now and I can’t wait to spend the rest of our lives together.

We reside in Houston Texas, it’s our home away from home. We enjoy the food and the diversity that Houston has to offer. All of our engagement photos were taken in a park across the street from our home in Houston.
We continue to work in education leadership in different roles and we truly love the work we do.
We are excited to share our special day in our new city! We hope that you love it as much as we do.
