Airports
There are two main airports to fly into in Crete. The wedding and surrounding town Rethymno is equidistant from both. You can fly into either Heraklion or Chania airports. Car
If you decide to hire a car from the airport, the drive is about 50-60 minutes. Car rental offers good value if you are going to be driving around rather than taxis. If you are a US citizen or only have a US license, you will need an international license to drive in Greece. You can get an International license from AAA for 20 dollars in the US.
Bus from Heraklion to Rethymno
The journey from Heraklion to Rethymno town is about 80 km along the north cost of Crete, along the national road. The bus trip costs €8.30 Euro and takes about an hour and a half. The bus leaves every hour from 5:30 AM to 10:30 PM.
Bus from Chania to Rethymno
The Journey from Chania to Rethymno town is about 80 km along the north west coast of Crete. The bus trip costs €8.30 Euro and takes one hour and 15 minutes. The bus does not go from the airport so you will have to take a taxi to the bus station. The bus leaves every hour starting at 5:15 AM and stopping at 10:30 PM.
