It all began in November of 2016 when Sahara and Henry downloaded the dating application Hinge. Fate (or their 3rd-degree friend connections) might say the two were destined to be together. After they matched, they began conversing via the app until Henry asked Sahara for her phone number. Instead of texting her immediately, he waited a few days trying to come up with a clever line. Ultimately he settled on, “Hey, it’s that random guy from Hinge who asked for your number…”
Sahara wasn’t sure how to address him in her response, since only two letters appeared on Henry’s Hinge profile: H.B. From age 2-26 Henry had always gone by H.B. But when Sahara addressed him as H in her first text to him, he flipped a coin. Heads for Henry. Tails for H.B. The coin landed on Heads, so Henry responded back, “the H stands for Henry. Call me Henry.” They texted nonstop for days, until one day, Sahara disappeared, and stopped responding. Henry was very concerned. Was Sahara a phantom of his imagination, or had she just “ghosted” him? Weeks passed, but Henry could not stop thinking about Sahara.
During the first week of January, Henry decided to reach out to Sahara again. In typical millennial fashion, he sent her nothing more than a line of emojis. Shockingly, this elicited a response from Sahara. She immediately responded with a video of her standing 15 feet away from President Obama in the White House Lawn. “Sorry for being so MIA. The President needed me!”
They began conversing about her current adventure in Washington D.C. when Sahara asked Henry what the B in HB stood for, Henry smiled, knowing exactly how to respond. Within seconds, he replied. “Hussein Barack.” Henry’s wit impressed Sahara more so than the President’s presence, and when Henry asked her out on a date, she agreed to meet him the following weekend.
When they met for drinks, they sat at the restaurant until it closed - laughing, joking, sharing New Year’s resolutions, their favorite Disney films, and their plans to attend business school. Sahara kept wondering why she waited so long for this date to happen! He was smart, kind, genuine, and hilarious!
When Henry texted Sahara after their first date, he said, “For two seemingly random variables, I see many correlations between our trajectories,” and asked her if she needed a study buddy. She did not wait days or weeks to respond. She responded immediately. Ever since then, they were inseparable. Some of their first dates consisted of GRE prep and MBA applications! When they started studying for the GRE, they thought they were embarking on a new chapter in life - the pursuit of an MBA. They had no idea that their journey would unfold into a fairy-tale-come-true love story.
When Sahara and Henry picked their wedding date, they had no idea they would have midterms the following weekend. While they should be studying, they will be celebrating their wedding with all of you instead. They are so excited to celebrate with all of you and have promised each other they won’t even think about school.
