In a world saturated with dating apps and websites, it seems there has never been an easier time to meet "the one" online. However, instead of swiping left and right, Arjun and Supriya took online dating to new heights, by meeting through none other than Instagram .... (He slid in the DM's).
Although Arjun and Supriya did not meet directly through the “Dil Mil” dating app traditionally, they definitely have Dil Mil to thank for their fateful union. Supriya was nominated as “Dil Mils Most Eligible Bachelorette” and had her pictures posted on the app's Instagram page. Never in a million years did she imagine or consider that she would soon be meeting the love of her life and future husband shortly after, in her DMs.
Arjun was scrolling through his instagram page and Supriya’s picture popped up on his feed. After a quick consultation with a friend he reached out and messaged Supriya immediately
The couple messaged each other back and forth for months. The conversation was slow and spread out at first, but as time went by the two were soon exchanging dozens of DMs a day They eventually moved to texting, and a few short months later they went on their first date (10/08/2019). Their first date was in DC; they met up in the city and walked to El Techo, a rooftop bar.
Unlike most first dates, theirs was not awkward at all! The two talked (a lot) laughed and enjoyed food and drinks together. By the end of the date Supriya knew for sure that this was something special...and it was!
Just a month and a half later, they began officially dating. Arjun asked Supriya to become his girlfriend after a date night at the WolfGang Puck restaurant and an art museum.

We usually have a talk at the beginning of every month mapping out our weekend plans for the month. I had planned to go to a galantines party the weekend before the BIG DAY. As soon as I mentioned it, Arjun’s head immediately shot up and told me NOT to make plans for February 19th because he had a work event that day. In my head I was definitely weirded out …. Who has a work event on a Saturday (during covid) It was definitely strange. The more questions I asked the weirder his responses were.
Me: What should I wear?
Him: Dress fancier than what you wear to work.
Me: What kind of event is it?
Him: An award ceremony, I’m giving a speech so you can’t skip this
I became even more suspicious when he took me out for a mani & pedi date on Valentine’s Day. He was very concerned about what my nails looked like, which was very unlike him. So I decided to have fun with it. I told him that I was planning to go out Friday night. Then I told him that my nails were chipped (I’m horrible, I know) . He was able to remain so calm and collected. Little did I know that he was freaking out the whole time!!
The day finally came, he picked me up from my apartment. He looked so handsome! It was a quieter drive than usual, his hands were sweaty, I was teasing him about it the whole time. I was secretly taking pictures and videos of him being so nervous.
We went up on the elevator and as soon as the doors opened. There stood his friend Ronak with a giant camera. At that moment my suspicions were confirmed, I had a giant grin on my face, trying so hard not to look at Ronak and laugh.
He took me to this room. As soon as the gates opened I saw a beautiful arch, (decorated by his mom and his sister) a million pictures of us, rose petals on the ground … It was perfect! I found myself suddenly out of breath ….. it was happening!!HIS SIDE
As someone who doesn’t use Social Media as much as others, if it wasn’t for social media I would have never found the girl that I was going to marry. I was just scrolling through my Instagram feed one day and came across Dil Mil’s post where they were featuring the most eligible bachelorettes and Supriya’s picture was up there. First thing I noticed was that hey there is an attractive girl living right here in Virginia, I wonder how I can get her attention. So instead of just messaging ‘Hey’ like I usually would I decided to come up with something that would catch her attention. After consulting with a couple of friends I came up with the cheesy biryani line that you see in the pictures here.
After sending that message, Supriya responded pretty quickly and from there we started kicking off the conversation and it eventually turned into simple messages of commenting on each other’s stories to having full blown conversations over the DM’s. Eventually I finally got the courage to ask her out on a date and ever since then I knew that this girl had something special about her and I really wanted around me. After a couple months of dating, I asked Supriya to be my girlfriend and luckily, she said yes!
I had been planning on proposing for months and finding the right ring that Supriya would love was the most important thing I had to get right. She had sent me a bunch of examples and even though she would send me different versions of engagement rings I knew what ring she wanted deep down because I could just tell by her expression when she described it. I finally got the ring, which was a hassle in itself due to delays in shipping, but after weeks of stressing out about it coming in on time I finally got it a week or so before the date I planned to ask her to marry me.
Our friends and family were extremely supportive in getting together and helping out with the proposal, but the hardest thing was to get Supriya to dress up and not have an idea that I would be proposing to her. I spent the last week confirming multiple times about timings and materials and making sure everything would go smoothly which I am sure my parents will confirm that I was annoying about. I had told Supriya that I was getting an award from work, which is not a complete lie, but there was no little party for it LOL. She was skeptical, as she should be since I don’t really have the greatest poker face, but she was on board and the plan was finally in motion.
The day of the proposal, I was very nervous about things going right. There was a high wind advisory so we had to move everything indoors, which threw a wrench in my plans, but I was able to secure an indoor spot that I found would work as well. Thank you again to our friends and family for helping set up at a different location at the last minute. I was on the phone with Supriya letting her know I was picking her up. She had to be messing with me because she kept saying her nail had chipped and I was pleading with her to go get it fixed before I got her. I had to have given it away at that point but I wasn’t going to admit it. I scooper her up and I was driving slowly back. My heart was beating so fast and my palms were so sweaty while she looked incredibly beautiful just chilling and having a good time. Little did I know she was recording me the whole time I wasn’t looking.
Once we got up the elevator and she saw the cameras, the rest was history. I was able to bring her into a room with our song playing and rose petals scattered along the walkway that had photos of us through the years down the aisle. I was so excited to start my life with Supriya that I told her that I loved her and then got down on one knee and as you all know she said YES! I’m so excited to start the next chapter of our lives. My palms still get sweaty from time to time because every day I know that I’m lucky to have found someone like Supriya.
