Getting to Borgo Stomennano
The closest airport to Borgo Stomennano is Pisa International, and we would encourage our guests to arrive here.
However, many of our guests may be traveling prior to the wedding, may arrive at a different airport, or may be exploring other parts of Italy or Europe, which is great (and also encouraged)! There is plenty of parking and space at the Borgo for those who wish to rent a car and come and go as they please.
Guests may find more options if flying to Rome or another international airport, but please be aware that arriving farther away requires additional transportation.
The closest train station to the Borgo connected to Rome is in Siena, which is approximately 30 minutes (driving) away from the Borgo. Please also be aware that luggage allowance on a train is different than luggage allowance on an airplane, so plan and pack accordingly.
If you plan on renting a car, in some cases you will need an international driver's license (required for US citizens but can be obtained easily from AAA).
Borgo Stomennano has plenty of parking available for those wishing to drive or rent a car to enjoy the Tuscan countryside.
Driving in Italy can be very rewarding, but it can also be a bit of a challenge. Follow these tips to ensure your experience is relaxed and comfortable:
-Ensure that your current driver's license allows you to drive in a foreign country (for example, US citizens must have an International Driver's Permit prior to leaving)
- Like most of the world, Italians drive on the right side of the road.
- Renting an automatic transmission car is more expensive than a manual transmission car.
- A smaller car will be easier to park and navigate through small city roads and towns.
- Ensure you know what kind of gas your rental car takes. "Benzina" is unleaded gasoline, and "Gasolio" is diesel - take note!
- Gas is paid for by the litre, which is smaller than the gallon. The current price per gallon is around $6 USD/gallon.
- Pay attention when driving within city walls; sometimes only residents may drive or park within some towns/cities.
- Learn some Italian - it will definitely help! And learn what the road signs mean prior to starting your journey.
