Fast forward 2.5 years, to August 2018.
On the morning of August 18, Ameer told Nelam to be ready by a certain time that evening so they would be on time for his cousin’s birthday dinner, an idea he planted in her head 2 months prior. However, Nelam always takes her sweet time and by the time Ameer came to get her, she wasn’t ready. He seemed anxious, but Ameer always likes to be on time so she didn't think twice about it.
Eventually, they left for the city. Nelam has no sense of direction and always lets Ameer guide wherever they need to go. He told Nelam he was waiting on everyone to reach the restaurant still, and in the meantime wanted to head over to walk around Washington Square Park. Nelam honestly thought nothing of it - she is really oblivious.
Ameer grabbed Nelam’s hand and walked around the square, reminiscing about that very special night years ago when he told her he loved her in that same spot. After walking for a bit, they made their way to the front of the fountain, Ameer saying sweet things and Nelam thinking nothing of it - even joking to him that he was being repetitive and asking if he was okay - when he was really just nervous. Before she knew it, Ameer slowly got down on one knee and pulled out a ring. In tears and completely stunned, Nelam gave a very easy “yes".
After having some amazing pictures taken, Ameer told Nelam they were headed to a private dinner, which turned out to be another incredible surprise: a party to celebrate with their 50 closest family and friends.
It was truly the most magical, perfect day and they've been on cloud nine ever since, taking in every moment.
- Food hop so we can constantly indulge ourselves: some favorites include anything spicy, Mexican, platters, sushi, mac & cheese, pizza, the list truly goes on...
- Travel and try new things: we have a very detailed and long bucket list that we've been checking things off of the last few years!
- Binge watch shows & have movie nights: some favorites include anything Marvel, true crime or scary (but never with ghosts for Nelam's sake!!). Honestly, we watch mostly anything.
- Cook: Nelam absolutely loves to cook and try new recipes, and Ameer loves to eat and always washes all the dishes, to Nelam's relief
- Play board games, especially with our families. Game nights are everything.
- Playing with Loki, our cat - mostly Nelam while Ameer judges her for being a cat lady
