We would like to invite the friends and cousins to a very informal sundowner at the estuary (where the Kongo River meets the Indian Ocean) right next door to the venue - Southern Palms Hotel. Look at the picture above :)
Taxi's/ Tuk Tuk's/Uber will be available outside of Southern Palms for guests to come join, however, it is only a 7-minute walk on the beach too. All tuk-tuk drivers would know where the estuary is but just in case, ask them to take you outside the Kongo Mosque.
It's a genuine Kenyan coast experience and entirely informal, so come in beach attire. We will have some music, cooler boxes with beers, wine & gin, and tonics. If you want to bring other drinks or add to the boxes, feel free :) It will be a great way for all our friends and respective cousins to meet each other and watch a sunset.
Ask your taxi drivers, Tuk Tuk drivers to wait for you or come pick you up when we will all leave. Please remember to not leave any rubbish or plastics behind :)
There is dinner as per usual for Southern Palms Hotel guests (part of the full-board rate). For those who wish to explore other places in Diani for dinner (e.g. our recommendations: Alibaba's the Cave, Nomads, Sails or the Salty Squid) feel free to make bookings personally.
This is called the pithi ceremony, it is one of the pre-wedding ceremonies. Turmeric (haldi), oil and water are applied to both the bride and groom by family and friends. The mixture is believed to bless the couple before the wedding. This is a fun ceremony that involves getting a little messy! So be sure to wear something you don't mind getting messed up! It is super casual! A lot of the time, there are also other ingredients added to this mixture to make it even more fun for family and friends and more of a dreaded ceremony for the poor bride and groom.
COVID NEWS:
Since our utmost priority is your safety, we will require all local guests planning to attend to have a negative covid test 72 hours prior to start of events. This is to ensure the safety of all our guests, vendors and hotel staff.
All international guests are currently required to show proof of a negative PCR test to travel to Kenya.
We will also have rapid tests available at check-in for extra comfort.
We understand it is an inconvenience BUT for all of us to feel comfortable and freely enjoy the wedding - this is a necessity.
Let's celebrate our colorful cultural diversity!
Mehndi, otherwise known as henna, is a paste associated with positive spirits and good luck. Indian Wedding tradition calls for a Mehndi ceremony to be held the night before the wedding as a way of wishing the bride and groom good health and prosperity as they make their journey on to marriage. It is a fun dinner and dance evening that normally turns into a pretty big party!
The dress code for this night is colorful, formal Indian outfits with a mandatory smile :)
Here are some ideas for outfits online. Remember it will be HOT, so make sure you are also comfortable.
There will be a detailed itinerary in your respective hotel rooms giving you all the information you may need.

The ceremony will take place on the beach and on the sand. The dress code is 'Boho Beach Formal', it will be hot so please keep that in mind. Ladies, high heels will sink in the sand so either wear flats, wedges, or barefoot and we will have a shoe stand for your heels, etc. that you can put on later at the reception if you wish. The reception later on is under a gorgeous Baobab tree and on the grass :)

It's a reception with a twist!
We wanted to merge our two personalities together to create the perfect reception hybrid. The dress code is beach formal with a splash of festival :) It could be something big or small, something you put on later or already have on. Be creative but don't worry too much, we will have some festival paint and a creative box for later.
The reception will be held at the same venue as the ceremony so there is no need to go back to the hotel to change.
There will however be taxi's and tuk tuk's to take people back to Southern Palms throughout the night but it's only a 5-minute walk on the beach back too - you can literally roll yourself over from the venue to the Hotel if you wish:)
