Travel
Transportation options within the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia).
Metrorail: DC has a great public transportation option. The metro is the subway station that extends from northern VA to Southern Maryland. It is easily accessible and is a very pocket friendly option to explore the various parts of Washington DC. You can use this link Metro Train Trip Planner to plan your trip!
Ride Share: Uber/Lyft are plentiful in DC! If you want to get around just within Washington DC, you can use, Via, which is a like Uber/Lyft but uses a shared ride system that takes a group of people the same direction, similar to a bus.
Ronald Regan Washington National (DCA): This is the closest airport to the hotels. This airport is in Arlington, VA, which is 4 miles away from the Willard/JW hotels. If you fly American or Southwest, this is a great option as well.
Dulles International Airport (IAD): DC's international airport. It is in Dulles, VA, 27 miles from the Willard.
Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall (BWI): A bit farther away by miles (35 miles from Willard), but BWI is a great option for those flying in. BW has plenty of options for flights with reasonable prices. You can also take the MARC train from BWI to DC which is only 30 minutes. Uber/Lyft also transport from BWI to DC routinely as well.
Food: DC has an amazing food scene! For anyone who wants to venture out, we have some of suggestions:
A few of our favorites:
The Dabney: mid atlantic feel (Suruchi's recommendation)
*Suruchi surprised Neal for birthday celebrations here!d
Rasika: in case you need more Indian food.
Fiola Mare: Micheln Star seafood, always a crowd pleaser.
*Always one of Neal and Suruchi's go to favorites!
For anyone looking to explore while in DC. These are some options within 1 mile of the hotel:
The Hamilton
Central Michel Richard
What isn't there to do?!
One of the reasons we are so excited to get married in DC is the sheer number of things to do in the city!
Visit the Whitehouse: We have not had the chance to do this yet, but it's on our bucket list! Get on this early to do so, How to tour the white house. We presume this is not an option because of COVID, but if you can, let us know!
Monuments: Our first date involved doing a tour of all the amazing monuments DC has to offer, and we recommend any of them. These are very close to the hotel venue! Take some time and enjoy these: Lincoln Memorial, Thomas Jefferson, Washington Monument, Vietnam, World War monuments, etc!
Museums: Neal is a bit of a museum nerd and has dragged Suruchi to a few of these. Some of our recommendations include: National Portrait Gallery, National Mall, National Museum of African American History and Culture, National History of American History, etc! Most are free to enter, but may require some planning for special tours/exhibits. *These are scheduled to re-open May 14th.
The Wharf: This is a beautiful area and of of our favorite parts of the city! The area sits on the Potomac and has several options for of restaurants, bars, and beautiful scenery. The District Wharf
