During the wedding ceremony, guests, as well as the bride and groom, will be sitting on a carpeted floor in the Darbar Sahib, Main Hall. Wearing comfortable clothing is helpful. Men typically wear a suit or kurta pyajama while women wear Indian salwar/pyjami suits. If you do not wish to wear an Indian suit, feel free to wear whatever you like, so long as your legs and shoulders are covered. Generally, low cut tops, shorts, and dresses are to be avoided.
In Sikh Temples, men and women are both required to cover their head. Women generally wear head scarves as part of their traditional dress. If you do not have a head covering, there are some for you to borrow at the temple. Men customarily wear turbans, but a knotted handkerchief will do. If you do not have one, no worries, the temple will have some available for you to borrow.
And finally, visitors to the gurdwara are required to remove their shoes shortly after entering the temple.
Women often wear lehngas, anarkali suits, saaris or Indian suits during the wedding reception. If you feel most comfortable in a dress, that is wonderful too! A suit and tie is encouraged for men.
