ITALY
May 12th - May 18th, 2020
Panicale is a commune located in the province of Perugia in the Italian region of Umbria - it's also the city where our villa is located!
Known for its stunning medieval hilltop town with streets arranged in an oval pattern, Panicale is a quintessential Italian town filled with great food, wine and landmarks.
We will be spending plenty of time in this traditional Italian hilltop town from May 12th - May 18th.
Florence or Rome?
Wondering which city you should fly into? Panicale is almost equal distance from Florence and Rome, so the choice yours! Rome is about 30 minutes further, but it tends to be a little cheaper to fly into.
You can get to Panicale from Florence by train or by car rental, but we highly suggest taking the train. It's much cheaper, and you don't have to worry about getting lost in the Italian countryside!
The nearest airport to Florence is Aeroporto de Firenze/Peretola (FLR), and this is likely the airport you will fly into if you choose Florence.
You will need to take a taxi from the airport to the Santa Maria Novella railway station - it's about a 15 minute taxi ride (about 3.5 miles). This train station is commonly known as Firenze SMN.

The train arrives hourly, and the ride will cost anywhere from $9 - $19, depending on the time of day you are traveling.
You will take a 1h 33m train ride from Firenze SMN to Castiglione Del Lago.
We will have a car at the villa, and we are more than happy to pick people up from the train station. It's about a 15 minute drive (around 9.1 miles). If you prefer to take a taxi, that averages around $30 - $40.
You can get to Panicale from Rome by train, bus or car rental, but we highly suggest taking the train. It's the most efficient and cost effective route.
The nearest airport to Rome is Leonardo da Vinci/Fiumicino Airport (FCO), and this is likely the airport you will fly into if you choose Rome.
There are both buses and trains between the airport and the train station, but most take the express train named the Leonardo Express. This express train will shuttle you directly to Rome's Termini train station. The cost is around $20 per person, and the trip to the train station takes about 30 minutes. A Leonardo Express train leaves every half hour in each direction, from about 6am to 11pm.

Once you arrive at Roma Termini, you will take a train to Chiusi-Chianciano Terme. These tickets will cost you around $10 - $12 depending on the time of day you are traveling, and the ride is about 2 hours, also dependent on what time you are traveling.
