FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
You're getting married in Mexico!? And on a Tuesday? Why...
We chose Cancun, Mexico because we both love to travel, love the beach, and wanted to celebrate somewhere beautiful with our closest friends and family.
Since Sam will be teaching next year, the middle of his Spring Break is actually the most ideal time for our wedding. We understand that taking time off work is a lot to ask for, so please do not feel pressured to attend. But for those who can join, we hope you will make the most out of this trip to Mexico (make it a vacation!). See our "things to do" section for ideas.
Tell me more about this resort. Do I have to stay there? And for how many days?
Finest Playa Mujeres is an all-inclusive resort, located 30 minutes north of the airport. The resort has 12 restaurants, 16 bars/lounges, and 24/7 room service. Your stay includes unlimited food & alcoholic beverages, activities (kayaking, paddle boarding, tennis, basketball, archery), dancing classes, cooking classes, live music and shows, and access to the spa and fitness center.
Since the ceremony and reception are taking place at Finest Playa Mujeres resort, 90% of wedding guests must stay at the resort. Yes, that's a lot of guests! We personally think it'll be more fun if you stay there for a few days, but if you'd prefer to book your own accommodations please let Sam and Teresa know ASAP so we can plan accordingly (you’ll also need to purchase a day pass to access the resort).
Ultimately, you can choose how short or long you stay at Finest Playa Mujeres, but we recommend 3-5 nights. Sam & Teresa will arrive Friday 4/8 and depart Thursday 4/15.
Room rates: A junior suite, 2-person occupancy will cost $873 per person for 3 nights; this includes your food/drink/stay and airport transfer. See our travel section for more room options & pricing. See the resort's website for photos of the rooms.

Do I need to book my stay at Finest Playa Mujeres with your travel agent? What about flights?
Please book your resort stay with our travel agent, otherwise you will not be counted towards our group and may not be able to attend wedding events.
Please book your flights on your own. We recommend sooner rather than later - spring break flight prices will increase as the date draws nearer.

Can I bring my children? Babies?
Yes, please bring your kiddos! The resort is family friendly and has a supervised kids club/waterpark and imagine lounge for kids ages 3-15. Babies 0-2 are also allowed in the kids club but must be parent supervised. See the Finest website for more info on baby care and free daycare.
If your child is not counted in your invitation please contact us - we want them to join! Please note that babies 0-2 stay free in the resort. Upon request, the resort can add a cot in your room so the space is comfortable for the whole family. Also, every room includes a sofa bed.
What should I pack?
Swimwear, wedding day attire (semi-formal), sandals, sunglasses, hat, sunscreen, bug spray, cash*, and your passport.
*Cash for tips: although the resort is "all inclusive" make sure to pack $1 & $5 bills to tip the staff - they will greatly appreciate it! Some restaurants at the resort have a strict dress code. View the website and select a restaurant to view the dress code.
Note: In some restaurants, men are required to wear long pants and collared shirts for dinner (jeans and polo shirts are ok), and women are required to wear long pants, capri pants, skirts and blouses, or dresses. Beach sandals, flip flops, T-shirts, tank tops, and shorts, are not permitted in some restaurants, especially during dinner time.
What are things to do around Cancun?
- Take the 20-minute ferry to Isla Mujeres
- Spend the day at Xcaret Park with the family
- Swim or snorkel in the Cenotes (natural deep-water wells) near Puerto Moreles
- Explore the Mayan ruins of Chichén Itzá
- Golf at the next door Playa Mujeres Golf Club
- Experience nightlife in the Cancun hotel zone
- Extend your vacation and head to Tulum for 2-4 days
- Relax by the pool and enjoy the many free activities at the resort
What about the pandemic? Is Cancun safe to travel to?
We don't expect everyone to be comfortable with international travel by Spring 2022. We would love to have you at our wedding, but please take care of yourselves first. If you need more time to decide on your RSVP, let us know. We also stress the importance of getting vaccinated prior to the wedding so all guests can enjoy the event safely. Also, given the CDC's recent recommendations, we advise all guests wear masks in crowded indoor spaces.
Cancun remains one of the safest travel destinations in Mexico, due to massive efforts made by the local government to implement COVID safety protocols. Resort staff are required to wear masks at all times. All Americans have been required to present a negative COVID-19 test in order to board a flight back to the U.S. The resort provides complimentary rapid testing services on site for guests staying 3 nights or more. Also, if you do test positive you are welcome to a complimentary stay in their isolation suites for up to 2 weeks.
For more details regarding covid and on-site testing, please see the Excellence Collection's covid-19 FAQs.
Finest Playa Mujeres is very secure - the resort is located 30 minutes north of the Cancun hotel zone in a gated community (all guests must pass through two gates prior to entering the property). The beach is completely private and for resort guests only.
General safety tip: Cancun is a very safe part of Mexico, where crime is low, but please use your common sense and keep all your possessions locked in your hotel room's safe.
