Game, Set, Match

A lot of love stories begin with smooth pickup lines, romantic gestures, candlelit dinners, (the works). Nick & Diana had a slightly different start.

Rewind nearly two years ago, when both were single in the concrete jungle of NYC and on the prowl via the popular dating app, Bumble. Oh, and both just so happened to ‘swipe right’ on one another.

For those unaware of how Bumble works, once both interested parties have matched, the guy can’t contact the girl until she messages him first. Until then, the guy is left hanging, and waiting, and wondering if he’s actually been matched with a real-life girl or with an algorithm, or questioning if there was some sort of technical glitch, or if the girl did some cyber stalking and decided he wasn’t the one.

Once matched, Nick feverishly checked his phone every minute for days until a notification finally appeared saying that a message from Diana was waiting for him in his inbox. Clearly not wanting to look overly keen by opening the message too soon after it arrived, with his heart racing and palms clamming up, Nick waited an entire 2 minutes before opening the message. The message read, “Happy hump day!” That was it. “Happy hump day”...

Talk about flirtatious banter!

After some serious soul and mojo searching, Nick followed up with what seemed like a great line at the time: “Me. You. Drink next week?” After not getting an immediate response, panic set in, “Why did I write that like Tarzan?” Nick asked himself pathetically.

Fortunately, Diana thought it was cute and assertive, and she did eventually respond. Nick and Di went on their first date on the 22nd May 2017 at the Lobby Bar in The Bowery Hotel, NYC. After discovering a mutual love of travel, cat videos, as well as equal indecision over Netflix choices, the rest, as they say, is history...

On October 5th 2018 Diana finally got her dream candlelit dinner (albeit citronella) in Turks & Caicos, where Nick got down on one knee and popped the question with one of his infamous limericks.

Their whirlwind romance has seen Nick and Di travel the world (Niagara Falls counts, right?), design their dream (rental) home in Dumbo, and co-parent me, Homey the house cat.

XoXo,

Homey
