The Grand Miramar is high on a hill.  Would you  rather stay close to the beach or in the midst of the happenings? If so, no problem. 
There are many boutique hotels that are close to the beach or the Romantic Zone.   Here are a few recommendations of hotels that have good reviews and reasonable rates:
- Playa Los Arcos Hotel Beach Resort & Spa.  Located in the heart of downtown Puerto Vallarta. Pack your swimsuit, Playa Los Arcos is located directly on the beach!
- Luna Líquida Hotel Boutique.  17 room boutique hotel in downtown Puerto Vallarta.
-- Rivera del Rio Boutique Hotel.  8 room boutique hotel in the Romantic Zone. Super cute with unique rooms.
- The Paramar Beachfront Boutique Hotel.  34 room boutique hotel, 10 minute walk to the Malecon
