Things to Do

Taj Mahal

One of the 7 wonders of the world, Taj Mahal was constructed by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan for his wife Mumtaz Mahal in 1653. Taj Mahal, situated in the city of Agra is approximately 2 hours away from New Delhi by train. We recommend taking the 12050 Gatimaan Express train from Delhi's Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station at 8:10 a.m which arrives in Agra at 9:50 am.

Humayuns Tomb

While Taj Mahal was built by Emperor Shah Jahan for his wife Mumtaz Mahal, Humayun's tomb on the other hand was built by Empress Bega Begum in memory of her husband Emperor Humayun in 1570. Humayun's tomb was the first garden-tomb in the Indian Subcontinent. The tomb is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is located in Nizamuddin, New Delhi.

Rashtrapati Bhavan

Rashtrapati Bhavan is the official home of the President of India and the world's largest residence of heads of state. Every Saturday morning and Sunday evening, you can witness the Change of Guard Ceremony performed by the President's Body Guards.

India Gate

India Gate, built in 1933 is the largest war memorial in India constructed in memory of the 70,000 Indian soldiers that died in the First World War and the Second Anglo-Afghan War. The memorial also consists of the Amar Jawan Jyoti (the flame of the immortal soldier) which has been burning since 1972  The Amar Jawan Jyoti was erected in memory of the soldiers that died in the Liberation of Bangladesh war in 1971. India Gate is manned 24 hours by soldiers of the three services of India (Army, Navy and Air Force).

We would recommend visiting it early in the morning when the crowd is less.

Shopping

For shopping we would recommend the following locations in Delhi:

Connaught Place / Rajiv Chowk: CP is the largest commercial hub in Delhi. Here you will find shops and restaurants of all kinds. If you are interested in comfortable Indian clothing, we would recommend checking out the Fab India store there.

Chandni Chowk: Located in Old Delhi, Chandni Chowk is what you would have thought about India. It is an energetic and overwhelming filled with road side shops and vendors. The street food there is to die for (we would recommend refraining from it if your immune system is not used to India). It is famous for clothing, jewellery, perfumes, copper antiques, etc. It is also home to Asia's largest spice market. If you are in this area we would also recommend checking out the 370 year old Jama Masjid and Karim's restaurant.

Delhi Haat: If handicrafts interest you then this is the place to go. Handicrafts from all across the country are available here at really good prices.

Dining Spots

Karim's

A historic restaurant located in Old Delhi, Karim's is our favourite place to eat in Delhi. The restaurant is more than a 100 years old (established in 1913) and still uses the same recipes that were used by the founder's father who served the Mughal Emperors of India. The trip to Karim in itself is an experience as you will be traversing the narrow lanes of Old Delhi and crossing the 370 year old Jama Masjid.

Moti Mahal

If you love butter chicken, then this is the place where it all began back in 1950s. Since it's origin, butter chicken has spread all around the world and is an internationally loved mildly spicy creamy chicken dish.

Bukhara

Voted one of the best Indian restaurants in the world. Their Dal Bukhara (black lentils cooked overnight) is to die for. If you love kebabs then definitely try the Burrah Kebab and Murgh Malai Kebab are really good.

Rajinder Da Dhaba

Meat eaters paradise. Their kebabs and chicken dishes are amazing. Would highly recommend their Chicken Curry, Burrah Kebab, Galoti Kebab and Tandoori Chicken. No matter what you order, you can never go wrong.

Saravana Bhavan

One of the best South Indian restaurants in Delhi. If you are a vegetarian or fancy vegetarian food then you would never run out of the options that they have. Their dosa's are delicious, specially the Rava Dosa.
