How we met

We met taking a sailing and anchoring course in Sausalito, California. Roger was insisting we learn how to tie off to a mooring ball (which is not easy on your first try) and I was panicking. I was surprised at how calm he was so I trusted him; If you know me, I was dying inside of panic haha.

The next week I learned that Roger tried the same maneuver with another boat and he got the line caught in the propeller!! He then had to dive in the water and untangle it!

That anchoring day is one of our best memories of a beautiful day at Angel Island. It remains one of our favorite places to take family and friends to anchor and have lunch.

Freediving

Katherine always felt uncomfortable swimming in open water and holding her breath. It's only natural that she would sign us up for an intense week-long free diving course in Bali.

Most of the diving would be 15 a minute swim away from shore with strong currents and murky waters. We learned the creator of the course was a Russian woman who died doing just that.

I was preparing to support Katherine in this difficult ordeal. And then she beat me by two minutes (!!) on our first timed breath hold. Thankfully she helped me out and held my hand as we swam out the rest of the week.

Engagement

I took Katherine out for star gazing to the Marin headlands. As we were looking for a nice place to watch the sunset, we came atop an abandoned bunker. Peering inside, we were appalled to see that amongst all the trash there was someone seemingly hiding or living there? The bunker dweller was holding a huge bag and only his back was visible to us. He was trembling and that was enough for us to go and find another place to watch the sunset.

Much to our surprise after the ring came out the bunker dweller emerged and turned out to be Sylvia (Katherine's sister) who had changed hiding location to pictures from a better vantage point. We celebrated the engagement with champagne and contemplated the planets.

Snow days are the best days

Not only do we have a love for sailing, but we equally LOVE skiing and playing in the snow. Ok, maybe I motivate Roger to come skiing a little bit more than sailing :)

Roger and I spent the winter of 2018-19 driving up to Lake Tahoe on the weekend and enjoying ourselves as you can see in our fun sledding videos.
