Nestled in a shoreline oasis known as Indian Neck, the Owenego tradition began in 1847, when David Lounsbury transformed the Pond Family Farm into a stagecoach stop to accommodate weary travelers journeying between NYC and Boston. Lounsbury named his boarding house, Owenego, after the warrior son of the Montowese Chief. In 1867, with increasing demand for overnight lodging, Lounsbury built the Owenego House – the very house that continues to serve as the hub of the Owenego today.
The matriarch of the Owenego, Jane W. Rosenthal, held the helm of the O from the 1950s until her passing in 2012. Now, Jane’s nephews and niece proudly continue their aunt’s tradition of welcoming guests to coastal Connecticut with a firm commitment to our members, guests, and the wonderful community in which we do business.
