It is our recommendation that you BOOK YOUR HOTEL AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. The end of July is HIGH SEASON in Greece and last thing we would want is for you to get stuck with limited options. So as soon as you decide that you are coming to our wedding, start looking for rooms or hotels. It is easier to find flights since prices fluctuate throughout the year so it is recommended that you prioritize your hotel/room search. Sifnos is up and coming and has been a hidden gem to some people so many popular rooms get booked far in advance by frequent visitors. BOOK EARLY!
We would like to share some important information with you about the best areas to stay in so it is convenient for you. While Sifnos is beautiful and majestic in its own way, it is a rather small island so all the main attractions are within proximity to each other. The island has over 250 churches so we want to make sure you make it to the right one!
1. The port of Sifnos where the boat arrives in is located in the town of Kamares. Kamares has an abundance of car rental shops, restaurants, information booths, ferry ticket shop, a beach, gift shops, bars, and more. If you choose to stay in Kamares, know that it is roughly 20 minutes away from the Chrisopygi church where the wedding ceremony will take place.
2. If you want to be close to both the wedding reception and church, then we recommend you book at Hotel in PLATIS GIALOS, Sifnos. Make sure when you look for hotels in PLATIS GIALOS, you look for PLATIS GIALOS in SIFNOS (There are multiple areas in Greece with the name "Platis Gialos" ). Lazarou Beach, where the reception will happen, is conveniently located in the town of Platis Gialos. Chrisopygi Church is less than 10 minutes away from Platis Gialos, making it easy to get around, especially if you have your own car. In addition, Platis Gialos has a long strip along a beautiful crystal clean beach with restaurants, beach bars, cafes, ceramic pottery shops, and more. Several sections of the beach have lying chairs or you can just pick a spot and lay your towels out on the sand.
3. Apollonia is a town located somewhere in the midway point of Kamares and Platis Gialos. Apollonia is about 10 minutes away from Kamares and also about 10 to 15 minutes away from Platis Gialos and Chrisopygi Church. While Apollonia is up the mountain and not on the shoreline, it is ideal for people who are planning on renting a car. In Apollonia, nestled between its brightly white painted homes, you will find a classic Cycladic walkway where the town becomes lively and buzzing in the evenings. Along the classic Greek Island stone paved painted walkway, you will find many small but pretty shops and eateries that include jewelry shops, dessert spots, popular and trendy restaurants, night clubs, cocktail bars, cafes, and more (see gallery for photos). There are many options here for rooms on both hotel sites and Air BNB.
These are our recommendations based on our experience. Feel free to do your own research as there are many more villages on the island!
