Tešíme sa na Vás!
The Bojnice Castle looks straight out of a fairitale, but it wasn't always that way. The first written mention of the castle dates to 1113 when it was constructed out of wood. Since then, Bojnice Castle changed hands many times and over the centuries it was owned by some of the most famous Hungarian noble families.
The current look is a legacy of the castle's last noble owner - Ján Pálfi, who liked to travel across Europe. The inspiration for the new design came from châteaux of Loire and according to the legend, this is not a coincidence.
On his travels, Pálfi fell in love with a French countess, but her father would only allow Pálfi to marry her, if he could provide her with all the comfort and luxury worthy of a French countess. That's why he decided to build her the most romantic and beautiful castle. Pálfi started the reconstruction in 1899 and it took 22 years. Unfortunately, the countess refused to wait that long and in the meantime married someone else. Heartbroken Pálfi ordered to place a golden crown of thorns on one of the spires, which you can still see today.
