How We Met (Her Version)

Jenny's Version

A few years ago, my cousin Nina and I were catching up during one of her breaks from college. She started talking about how she and Subin's cousin Jasmine thought it would be a great idea to set Subin and I up. At first I was a little skeptical and didn't want to deal with the awkwardness of being set up, but then again why not? For the next 2 months, I waited on this dude to at least add me on facebook, but nothing! So I figured this would be one of those lost causes, and didn't think to much into it.

About a month later, I was out with my aunt, Donna aunty. She started asking about guys and dating and I mentioned Subin to her, even though there wasn't much to tell. According to her, there was no reason for me to wait around for some guy to make the first move when I was totally capable of initiating. So, with some liquid courage, I decided that I was going to add him on facebook! (But that was as far as I was willing to go).

24 hours later, not only did someone accept my request but he sent me a message too! We quickly realized how much we had in common and decided to meet up. From then on, there hasn't been a day we haven't spoke, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

How We Met (His Version)

Subin's Version

A while back ago, my cousin Jasmine mentioned that her college roommate Nina had a single cousin named Jenny. She would go on to say how Jenny & I would make a cute couple, and that she could "hook it up". Initially, I did not show much enthusiasm as I was not a believer in blind dates. A few weeks later, Jenny came up again in conversation, but this time there was also a picture. My general impression from it was, that she was cute. I thought about adding her on social media but did not want to come off as creepy so it ended at that.

Fast forward a few months later, Jenny sent me a friend request. I gave it the usual 24 hrs before accepting it so I looked cool. I ended up messaging her and figured it would end with a brief conversation. I was totally wrong, we ended up chatting non-stop. Eventually , I slid my cell number in with the excuse that my fingers were getting tired of typing and to just call. Jenny one up'ed me and sent me her digits instead. She stated that "it was the least I could do" given that she made the first move already.

Eventually we went out for lunch and soon realized that we had a lot in common and she even laughed at some of my jokes. It took a little while for Jenny to admit it but I knew that she liked me too. From then on we talked almost every day and I knew she was someone I could bring home to my family.

The Proposal

"Turns out planning a surprise proposal was way more difficult then I originally thought".

It all started with the bling; being a newbie to the world of engagement rings, I consulted with friends and family and roughly knew what I was looking for. It was Jenny's aunt Debbie who had connections and took me to a place. We ended up finding something I liked and placed the order. A few weeks later with the ring in hand, I started planning the proposal with the help of my brother and cousins. I had hopes of bringing the ring over to Jenny's parents house to show them and ask her dad for permission this one night. However, those plans quickly changed when Jenny called saying that she got a holiday from work and did not have to go in that evening. Having no other option and the proposal around the corner, I called Jenny's dad and received his blessing over the phone.

As the proposal inched ever so closer, the venue was booked and everything was set. Quickly, I informed the families of my plans on how to catch Jenny off guard. With many people involved, crumbs of my plan were bound to leave a trail. Initially, Jenny grew suspicious and I quelled her suspicions with elaborate  explanations. However it wasn't until Jenny had a face-time call with her uncle Staicy and baby Mila that she knew the proposal would be happening soon. Jenny asked her baby cousin Mila where her mom and myself went a few weeks ago. Unexpectedly, Mila said that her mom got a ring and pointed to her own fingers. At this point, Staicy uncle could not contain his laughter and Mila's sister Arya, shouted that Mila snitched confirming Jenny's suspicions.

The day of the proposal was finally here and I was somewhat nervous. My brother, cousins and I headed to the city early that day. Meanwhile, Jenny's cousin Nina and Ruby brought Jenny to the city with the pretext that they we're going out for dinner. I got the text they we're close and we all got in place. Jenny was brought to Paley Park and was ultimately really surprised to see me. I held her hands and guided her atop the stairs to the spot by the waterfall. I said some words of endearment before I got down on one knee and popped the question and she said yes..I think. From there, we went to St. Patrick's Cathedral and then to a Penthouse with our families waiting to celebrate. A big thank you to our friends and family who helped and came out that night!
