We have known each other for as long I can remember. Being close family friends, Adeife and I grew up in close proximity. Despite this, we do not have any recollection of one another. It wasn't until we started dating that we began to piece together our intertwining lives. The pieces to a 15 year old puzzle.

I began to suspect Tobi's interest in me the moment he started having conversations with me (anyone who knows Tobi knows that he is not much of a conversationalist). After much persuasion, I agreed to go on our first date. We had dinner at a restaurant in Aurora and watched Focus at the movie theatre beside it. That night, Tobi would keep our movie tickets in a shoe box and give them to me three years later, on the day he would propose.

It was the weekend of Tobi’s birthday and I had made plans to celebrate. Tobi cancelled those plans and suggested we visit Prince Edward County instead. I agreed. We spent the day exploring the town, hiking, and walking along the beach. On our way back home we stopped at Belleville Bay Bridge. As we walked along the river, Tobi asked if we could take one last picture using our selfie stick, which we had been using all day. He set up the camera and called me over. I leaned in and looked up to smile. Instead of a mirror image of ourselves, the screen read, “Will you marry me?”

It is moments like these, when we are required to reflect, that we realize how much we have grown. Each season has brought us closer. Every time we thought something was too hard; that something was impossible, and every time we wanted to give up; those were the moments that revealed just how much we love each other. Having built such a strong foundation, we are looking forward to a bright future. A future filled with love and lots of Air Miles.
