We “met” in a very…creative freshman seminar in college called Engaging With Artistic Space, though met is really pushing it. More like we were aware of one another’s existence (maybe one of us more than the other…..) but never once interacted. We can thank our old pal Tinder for getting the ball rolling about 4 months after the class ended. And here’s us about 8 months after we started talking, shortly after I (Gabby) asked Eric if we were dating at a party to which he replied “yuh”. Slow and steady wins the race.

This is to clear up any confusion about how we ended up in San Diego, since people in my life (Gabby) ask me all the time. Of course, we met at Berklee which is only about an hour and a half from where I grew up in Massachusetts. Eric had always planned to move back to his home town, San Diego, upon graduating, and I didn’t have any plans other than to get out of Massachusetts for a while. So after he finished school in 2021, we packed up my dear Giuseppe (literally to the brim) and drove across the country for 12 days. Check out my highlight about it on instagram!

We had absolutely NO intention of getting a cat in November 2023. I (Gabby) was simply feeling lonely after having been surrounded by the cats of many friends, and happened to be scrolling on Adopt a Pet when a rehome ad popped up in my feed. It had only been posted a few hours before. The cat was a five year old snowshoe who belonged to a woman that had rescued him as a kitten, but was now no longer able to care for him. Not thinking he’d be into the idea much at all, I sent the ad to Eric just to get a feel on him. I think we both kinda knew deep down that this was our guy, because after Eric saw the ad, Rocky was in our living room two weeks later. Rock, Doodle, Rockathan, Rockeroni and Cheese, RockyMan, Rocky Catoon, Rocket Man, Our Slithey Tove, is perhaps the most spoiled, but also most deeply loved cat in all of San Diego. The beginning of the little Record Wesling family :) Unfortunately Rocky will not be in attendance at any of the wedding events given that he is afraid of absolutely everything, but his very meowy spirit will be with us throughout.

I (Gabby) have wanted this exact engagement ring since I was about 16 years old. I needed something to visualize for my future engagement to Harry Styles and or Chris Evans and or Zac Efron (after all I am AM a dramatic storyteller and thespian), and the ring just kind of always stuck with me ever since. When we started talking about the idea of getting engaged years ago, I sent Eric the ring on Etsy, not very hopeful that it would be in stock when the time came but thinking he could find something similar. But miraculously, he managed to get his hands on the very one, 8 years after I originally discovered it. A) TeriLeeJewelry on Etsy is the MVP B) 10 points for Eric, love that guy, and C) I don’t know if I’ll ever get used to actually seeing THE ring on my finger every day
