Travel Notes

The closest and most convenient airport to fly into is Queenstown Airport so plan all incoming and outgoing flights from there.

The best way to see and experience all New Zealand has to offer is by DRIVING! You will definitely need to arrange a car or form of transport to get to Wanaka for our wedding weekend so below we have included information in regards to hire cars and fully self contained camper vans (for the more adventurous).

Depending on how long your trip is, we have also included a few lists of things to do and see in the main surrounding towns! Links are also provided so you can dive deeper into the details if you're interested and secure yourself some awesome adventures!

Car & Camper Van Rentals

This link includes on-site car hire companies who have service desks inside the terminal, as well as those who have offices nearby.

For Queenstown car hire companies that are not on site, many provide a free shuttle service to collect you from the airport or drop you off.

Otago Central Rail Trail

The ULTIMATE adventure!

This is a journey into the region’s heartland of ever-changing mountainous, dry, rocky landscapes, productive farmland, spectacular river gorges, tunnels, viaducts, thriving townships, old stone and mud-brick dwellings and preserved gold mining settlements – shaped and seasoned by the harsh, continental climatic extremes unique to Central Otago.

This trip can be pre-planned against the rail trail map so you are in control of your path and the amount of days you spend exploring! Accommodation will need to be booked separately depending on your route.
