DEBBIE
(EN) We first met in 2011 when I was visiting my aunt in the US for the first time. Aunty Imah was a family friend of Bolu’s mom and was living with them. So my family and I ended up staying at Bolu's home for several weeks. At first glance, I was shy and a little intimidated because my English-speaking was limited but after few days, we ended up talking and getting along well. He was a nice, funny and handsome (dark chocolate hello!) young man that just gave his life to Christ while I had not. At the end of my stay, we exchanged emails contacts.
(FR) Nous nous sommes rencontrés pour la première fois en 2011 lorsque je rendais visite à ma tante aux États-Unis pour la première fois. Ma tante était une amie de longue date de la mère de Bolu qui vivait également avec eux. Ma famille et moi avons donc fini par rester chez Bolu pendant plusieurs semaines. À première vue, j'étais timide et un peu intimidé parce que mon anglais n'était pas très bon mais après quelques jours, nous avons fini par discuter et nous nous entendions plutôt bien. C'était un jeune homme gentil, drôle, et sacrément beau gosse qui venait de donner sa vie à Christ alors que je ne l'avais pas encore fait. A la fin de mon séjour, nous avons échangé nos mails pour garder contact.
BOLU
(EN) At first when I saw Debbie, I did notice her beauty but she looked quite young. At that time, I was still early in my relationship with God so it felt like temptation just walked through my door. However, despite being 2 teenagers in the same household, we became strictly good friends throughout her stay. By the end of her stay, I noticed that I had a slight attraction to her and really liked her company. We eventually exchanged emails and even found each other on facebook and kept in touch as friends for several years.
(FR) Quand j'ai vu Debbie, j'ai remarqué sa beauté mais elle avait l'air assez jeune. À cette époque, j'étais encore au début de ma relation avec Dieu, alors j'avais l'impression que la tentation venait de franchir ma porte. Cependant, malgré le fait que nous soyons 2 adolescents dans le même foyer, nous sommes devenus de bons amis tout au long de son séjour. À la fin de son séjour, j'ai remarqué que j'avais une légère attirance pour elle et que j'aimais beaucoup sa compagnie. Nous avons finalement échangé nos emails et nous nous sommes même retrouvés sur Facebook. Par la suite, nous sommes restés en contact en tant qu'amis pendant plusieurs années.
2011-2015
BOLU & DEBBIE
(EN) As we were in our respective countries, we started learning & knowing each other more and more through emails. We realized that we share a lot in common like values, humor, mindsets and of course love of food.
There were periods where we would send emails back & forth within the day and there were other periods where we would send an email once in awhile. We probably exchanged more than 2,000 emails. It may sounds very strange nowadays but for us, it was like our own thing. Our special way to communicate which was only between B&D.
And then, in 2015, Debbie gave her life to Christ and from there we started bonding in a deeper level.
(FR) Pendant que nous étions dans nos pays respectifs, nous avons commencé à apprendre à nous connaître de plus en plus par e-mail. Nous avons réalisé que nous partagions beaucoup de points communs comme les valeurs, l'humour, les mentalités et bien sûr l'amour de la nourriture.
Il y avait des périodes où nous envoyions des e-mails dans la journée et il y avait d'autres périodes où nous envoyions un e-mail de temps en temps. Nous avons probablement échangé plus de 2 000 e-mails. Cela peut sembler très étrange de nos jours, mais pour nous, c'était comme notre propre truc. Notre façon particulière de communiquer qui n'était qu'entre B&D.
Et puis, en 2015, Debbie a donné sa vie au Christ et à partir de là, nous avons commencé à créer des liens plus profonds.
B&D 2016-Forever
BOLU:
(EN) I remember praying one day in 2016 that I wanted God to provide a true partner in life that I could do everything with. At the time, I really did not think anything was about to happen between Debbie and I until we started communicating again and more often. This time our conversation started to head in a more romantic direction. We both prayed of course as we did not want to make any mistakes in starting something without God's direction. Eventually it got to the point where we were talking and communicating everyday and before you knew it, she was calling me "babe". Long distance was definitely not something we imagined handling. But by God's grace with each passing day, we have grown and found that all things are truly possible with Christ as the foundation.
(FR) Un jour en 2016, je me souviens avoir prié à Dieu que j'aimerais une véritable partenaire dans la vie avec lequel je pourrais tout partager. À l'époque, je ne pensais vraiment pas que quelque chose allait se passer entre Debbie et moi jusqu'à ce que nous recommencions à communiquer. Cette fois-ci, notre conversation a commencé à prendre une direction plus romantique. Nous avons tous les deux prié bien sûr car nous ne voulions pas faire d'erreurs en commençant quelque chose dans lequel Dieu n'était pas. Finalement, nous en sommes arrivés au point où nous parlions et communiquions tous les jours et avant que vous ne le sachiez, elle m'appelait "bébé". Etre dans une relation longue distance n'était certainement pas quelque chose que nous imaginons gérer mais par la grâce de Dieu, nous avons grandi et découvert que tout est vraiment possible avec Christ comme fondement.
DEBBIE:
(EN) 2016 was definitely the year our friendship further developed. The more we talked to each other with full transparency about everything, I began to picture myself starting this lifetime journey with Bolu. Yet, I wasn't sure neither if this vision was similar for Bolu nor if it was the right timing as well because we were living in different countries. Eventually after some time, Bolu expressed his intention to begin this journey with MOI. God gave me peace. Here we are, 5 years later, B&D is entering into a new chapter of their journey!
(FR) 2016 a définitivement été l'année où l'amitié entre Bolu et moi a commencé à prendre un nouveau tournant. Plus nous nous parlions en toute transparence de tout, plus je me voyais commencer ce voyage de toute une vie avec Bolu. Pourtant, je n'étais pas sûr ni si cette vision était similaire pour Bolu ni si c'était aussi le bon moment car nous vivions dans 2 pays différents. Finalement, après un certain temps, Bolu a exprimé son intention de commencer ce voyage avec MOI. Dieu m'a donné la paix. Voilà, 5 ans plus tard, B&D entame un nouveau chapitre de leur voyage !
December 2020 - Christmas period
BOLU:
(EN) I knew this short trip of 7 days would be the one where I would propose. Since we already started planning the wedding, I had to wait until the very last day in order to keep the surprise. I let everyone know that I would propose on that night. After dinner, Papa prayed. At the end of the prayer and before everyone opened their eyes, Becky played one of Debbie and I favorite songs. I got on my knees and the rest is history ;).
(FR) Je savais que ce petit voyage de 7 jours serait celui où je lui demanderais de m'épouser. Comme nous avions déjà commencé à planifier le mariage, j'ai dû attendre le tout dernier jour pour garder la surprise. J'ai fait savoir à tout le monde avant le dîner que je demanderais à Debbie ce soir-là de m'épouser. Après le dîner, papa a prié. À la fin de la prière et avant que tout le monde n'ouvre les yeux, Becky a joué l'une de nos chansons préférées à Debbie et moi. Je me suis mis à genoux et le reste était de l'histoire ;)
DEBBIE:
(EN) When Bolu arrived in France for few days, I knew at any time and any moment he could pop the question. But as time was running, nothing was happening and Bolu kept insisting that he will not proposed during this stay because something happened with my ring and he wanted it to be a complete surprise.. At the beginning, I thought he was just playing and joking as usual but I started believing that he was actually serious! He is not going to propose xD So when he finally did the day before leaving for the U.S., I was in shock and tears and of course said a loud YES!
(FR) Quand Bolu est arrivé en France pour quelques jours, je savais qu'à tout moment il pourrait me demander de l'épouser. Le temps défilait et il ne se passait rien.. Bolu n'arrêtait pas d'insister sur le fait qu'il ne passerait rien pendant ce séjour car il y a eu un souci avec ma bague et qu'il voulait que ce soit une surprise. Au début, je pensais qu'il rigolait comme d'habitude mais les jours passaient et toujours rien x) Donc j'ai commencé à vraiment le prendre au sérieux ! Il ne va pas me demander de l'épouser.. Ça sera la prochaine fois xD Alors quand il l'a finalement fait la veille de son départ, j'étais sous le choc et en larmes et bien sûr j'ai dit un grand OUI!
