We’re getting married!!

January 2021 can’t come soon enough! While the global pandemic has changed our initial plans and we're now only able to have family and wedding party physically there with us, we hope that all of our guests will still share in our special day by joining virtually.  We're working on those details, so please check back in on the "Travel & Virtual Viewing" tab closer to the wedding for that information.  Thank you to everyone for your support during this time, we hope to celebrate with each of you in person soon!

Virtual Viewing

Click on the play button below to watch our ceremony

To our virtual guests: It’s difficult to imagine you all not being with us physically on our wedding day, but we hope you can still share in it by attending virtually and toasting us from afar! Because the ceremony is on a small street on the island without strong internet service, we are unable to live stream the ceremony when it begins at 4:30 pm. We anticipate posting the virtual viewing around 9:00 pm. If you check here on the day of the wedding, there will be more details on the exact timing. We will not be streaming the entire reception, but we will post highlights later in the evening around 10:00 pm. For those of you for whom 10:00 pm is past your bedtime, no worries, the link will still be available on the website the next day! Please post any celebration pictures or toasts in the Virtual Toasts & Guest Book tab or text them to 561-350-6449!

In Person Precautions

To our family and wedding party attending in person: All guests must receive a negative non-rapid COVID test before traveling. Please shower and change clothes before meeting us if you've just arrived, and follow safety precautions such as wearing a mask indoors and frequently washing your hands throughout the weekend. We promise to do the same for you! Event venues have been moved to outdoor locations with your safety in mind. For each of the events under the “Wedding Weekend Festivities” tab, we’ve added a “Safety Note" with further details.  Thank you for helping make us and our guests as comfortable and safe as possible!

Accommodations

Boca Grande is a small, quaint island with a limited number of options for accommodations so you'll need to book as early as possible. The Old Florida small town charm is part of the reason we love the island and hope you will too!

The Gasparilla Inn

The Gasparilla Inn has rooms at its main hotel and cottages sprinkled throughout the town for larger groups.  Guests have access to the hotel, golf course, tennis facilities, and the beach club.  The Gasparilla Inn is where the wedding & several other events will be held! This is the nicest hotel on the island and the more high-end option.

Please call and mention the Morgan-Emslie Wedding to book within the block: (877) 764-1420

The Innlet

The Innlet offers 20 waterfront efficiencies with views of the Boca Grande Bayou and is located in the heart of the town.

*Guests selecting this option will not have access to the Gasparilla Inn facilities but there is an onsite pool and The Innlet is across the street from a public beach access point.

Please call and mention the Morgan-Emslie Wedding to book within the block: (941) 964-4600

The Boca Grande Resort

The Boca Grande Resort is located about 3.7 miles (a 6-minute car ride or a 10-minute golf cart ride) from the Gasparilla Inn.  This island-themed hotel is a good option with lots of rooms plus a pool, restaurant and Kappy's Market onsite.

*Guests selecting this option will not have access to the Gasparilla Inn facilities but there is an onsite pool and multiple public beach access points around the island.

Please call and mention the Morgan-Emslie Wedding to book within the block: (941) 964-4443

House Rentals

AirBnB: There are several AirBnB options in the heart of the town that can be found by searching with "Gasparilla Island" as the landmark and booking within that circle on the map.

VRBO rental for a group of up to 9
1 bedroom VRBO rental

Getting To The Island

A Few Suggestions for Getting to the Island

1.  Split a car rental with another couple or a few friends

*Feel free to reach out to us for suggestions of who you may be able to split with!

2.  Uber (Approx. $100-$150)

* Be sure to get your Uber driver's contact info and pre-schedule your Sunday return trip.  Ubers/Cabs aren't allowed on the island so they can only drop you off - you cannot order an Uber from the island.

3.  Book a private driver through the Gasparilla Inn at (941) 964-2201

* This is generally the most expensive option if you're travelling as a couple or in a smaller group, however, if you get a large SUV, van, stretch limo, or shuttle bus and split it several ways, it could end up being the most affordable.

Getting around the island

We encourage you to reserve a golf cart or bicycle before you get to the island so they don't run out! Golf carts are the best (and most fun!) way to get around.  Feel free to reach out if you'd like help finding golf cart buddies to split it with! However, if you don't want a golf cart, that's ok - its only a 3-mile island so you can walk to most everything!

Staying at the Inn? Book a golf cart with your room reservation.
If not, you can rent a golf cart through one the following:

Gasparilla Adventures: (941) 964-0711 (4 seater is $199 for 2 days, 6 seater is $290; located in the center of the town next to the Gasparilla Inn Beach Club)

Kappy's Market:  (941) 964-2506 (4 seater is $150 for 2 days, 6 seater is $200, 8 seater is $250; located on the North end of the island and it's on hotel grounds for guests at the Boca Grande Resort)

Childcare

The Gasparilla Inn concierge will arrange babysitting services and can be reached at 941.964.4580.  For guests staying elsewhere, we recommend Elite Family Care.  Please see the "Wedding Weekend Festivities" page for which events you'll need to have childcare for your little ones (noted on each).

Ashley Moore
Ashley Moore

Ashley is Charley’s big sister who lives in San Francisco with her husband Evan and new baby boy, Charles. Charley can't talk about how wonderful she is without crying so we'll just leave it at that!
Meghan Stryk
Meghan Stryk
Bridesmaid, Sister of Groom

Meghan is Charley’s future sister-in-law who lives in San Antonio with her husband Wade and daughter Porter. John and Charley love going to visit Meghan for the weekend where they’re spoiled rotten with pool time, grill outs, and late night shut-the-box competitions.

Sara Sultz
Sara Sultz
Bridesmaid, Sister of Groom
Sara is Charley’s future sister-in-law who lives in College Station with her husband Josh and kids Abby and Caleb. Sara has so warmly welcomed Charley into the family and feels like a sister already with her positive outlook and supportive ear.
Whitney Wells
Whitney Wells
Bridesmaid
Whitney is Charley’s oldest friend. They met at boarding school, where they quickly learned they could always go to each other with “hey, do you want to...” and know the answer would be “yeah!”. After 2 years of that mentality leading to mud sliding in Saran Wrap and performing late night interpretive dance routines in the dance studio, Whitney’s mom happened to move to Charley’s home town, which ensured they’d stay best friends forever, even finishing up high school together back in Florida. Whitney has recently achieved the dream of moving back to Vero Beach, FL with her husband Alex and 2 little ones, Jack and Tilly.
Kendra Eaton
Kendra Eaton
Bridesmaid
Kendra is Charley's friend from SMU. She's the kind of friend who knows your birthday is coming up even before you do and has a side text with your mom. I often look at her and think “how does she do it??”
Elyse Murphy

Bridesmaid
Elyse is Charley's friend from SMU.  Never a dull moment with this one, Elyse brings light and laughter into every situation.
Luba Popov
Luba Popov
Bridesmaid

Luba is the kindest person you'll ever meet!  Charley's parents have deemed her a required invite to our annual 4th of July in Lake Toxaway because she's so helpful and keeps us all in line!  What Charley loves most about her is how down to earth and genuine she is.

Chelsea Kleen
Chelsea Kleen
Bridesmaid
Chelsea was originally a friend of John's from UT but Charley quickly snatched her up as one of her besties.  She is engaged to one of John's groomsmen, Blake, and the 4 of us ("Hearts Club") have had many road trips, pool days and game nights.  Chelsea is so much fun, has always looked out for me, and I'm so glad John brought her into my life!
Esther Beckett
Esther Beckett
Bridesmaid

Esther is my new favorite Frenchie and we have the best meeting story!  I was selling many things on Facebook Marketplace while re-decorating and one day, 2 French sisters came to buy my rug.   Esther was in and out in 15 minutes but I spent the next several days repeatedly telling John how much I weirdly felt like we were soulmates and would be great friends.  With John encouraging me to reach out, I finally put my pride aside and asked Esther out on a friend date.  Fast forward a year and a half, Esther is now one of my closest friends!  And as a bonus, she came with her wonderful husband Taylor so the four of us have had many a game-night sleepover and have a solid plan for if we ever go to a theme park that Taylor and I will go on the rides while John and Esther hold our things and give us tickets.  Esther is smart, funny, down to earth and kind, and we have so much in common - from painting at White Rock Lake to exploring whatever museum or event seems interesting that weekend (pre-covid, can't wait til we can get back to exploring, Esther!).  Thank you John for encouraging me to be a huge weirdo and try to befriend the girl who bought my rug!

Sarah Reyes
Sarah Reyes
Bridesmaid, Honorary

Six years ago, Sarah’s husband, Miguel, asked to join Charley’s friend’s frisbee game one day in the park and the rest was history. Sarah is one of the kindest and warmest people I know, and I look up to her and value her advice much like a sister. Sarah and Miguel have since returned to their hometown of Louisville but never miss our annual 4th of July trip to Lake Toxaway, even this year when she was 8 months pregnant with their first baby!

Honorary: Sarah will be with us in spirit on the wedding day as she's a recently become a new Mom to a beautiful baby girl Ariana!

Peaches Morgan
Peaches Morgan
Bridesmutt

9 years ago, I inherited the light of my Grammy’s life, her teacup Yorkie Peaches. Having always dreamed of owning a Mastiff, myself, I never understood why Grammy adored this timid little dog so much, but I adored Grammy and she made my family promise that we would take care of her Peaches after she was gone so it was without a single thought that I stepped up. Next thing I knew, my Dad was fresh off a plane at my door in Dallas, holding a tiny cage and a bag of even tinier dresses, leashes and diapers. And just like that, my Dad was gone, and I was alone in my apartment as a senior in college, looking at this scraggly thing cowering below me with mutual uncertainty. Fast forward and my family now refers to Peaches and I as "the most unlikely best friends."

Gasparilla Island
Gasparilla Island
Overview of the Island

“Florida as it was meant to be.”

As soon as you arrive on Gasparilla Island, you’ll feel the pace slow from the hustle of everyday life. Nature has blessed this lush barrier island with seven miles of powdery white beaches stretching the entire Gulf side and surrounded it with cerulean waters, the kind one usually finds only in the Caribbean, and with one of the most pristine and productive coastal ecosystems in the world.

At the center of the island lies the heart of this little community, The Historic Village of Boca Grande. Here, “Main Street” still exists with no stop lights, no billboards, no high-rises and no fast-food chains. You will find, however, pastel cottages and palm-lined streets, unique shops and art galleries, casual and fine dining establishments serving fresh seafood just caught by the local fishing captains and prepared by any of the island’s classically trained chefs.

Because Boca Grande isn’t much larger than one square mile, finding your way around doesn’t require GPS. If you get lost, simply drive towards the afternoon sun or ask a local.  They’re easy to spot. Just look for someone in no particular hurry to get anywhere in particular. Then slow down, smile and relax. You’re on island time.

Eats & Drinks

The Bakery

With no Starbucks on the island, this is your 'go-to' for coffee and pastries in the morning. This casual café located in the village of Boca Grande makes everyone feel like a regular and offers a wide variety of signature coffees, morning pastries, desserts, inventive lunch fare and afternoon snacks, all under the direction of The Inn’s culinary team. Coffee is self-serve, just put $2 in the mug on the counter!

The Pink Elephant

No, this restaurant was not created specifically for Charley (hard as that is to believe) but yes, every glass does come with a tiny pink elephant on it!  In fact, The Pink Elephant, affectionately known as "The Pink", has been an Island favorite for over 60 years.  Lunch and dinner menus focus on imaginative regional cuisine, seafood and steaks.  The more formal main dining room is upstairs and a casual pub area/outside patio downstairs.  We recommend finishing your dinner with a Hummer!

*Note: To dine upstairs, we’d recommend a reservation and remind you that the Gasparilla Inn dress code is required (sport coats for men).

The Outlet at The Innlet

The Outlet serves breakfast and lunch daily from 7:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. and offers delicious breakfast essentials like pancakes, omelets, and great muffins. A waterfront brunch beneath the umbrellas on the back patio will never disappoint!

South Beach Bar

South Beach is located on the Southernmost tip of our little island and has the best beach view in town. Its beachside eatery offers American classics, seafood and cocktails in a relaxed, breezy setting with ocean views.  Fun bike ride to lunch or a casual sunset supper!

Sisters

Homey local eatery with outdoor dining serving classic Italian comfort eats, pasta, pizza and vino.  A quick walk from The Inn, this is a favorite casual dinner spot or a great place to take the kids for a slice!

Loose Caboose

Head to an iconic Boca Grande building for a quick lunch or scoop of homemade ice cream at the Loose Caboose!  Located in an old railroad station, the Loose Caboose is a great casual lunch-spot specializing in sandwiches and wraps.  Eat out on the patio, and soak in the casual, laid-back life at Boca's "busiest" intersection.

Temptation Restaurant

Great dinner spot for the freshest seafood in town with an old Florida atmosphere that can't be beat!  Not much has changed at the Temptation Restaurant (known to locals as "The Temp") since US Navy man, Homer Addison, home from the war, opened the doors in 1947.  Record-sized marlin and tarpon hang high on the wall and murals depicting Boca Grande and Gasparilla Island life painted in the 1950s by local artist Deo Weymouth encircle the room.   This jumble-box of a building offers different rooms with different charms but each with the same menu.  Fish is the main attraction at The Temp, brought to the kitchen by local fisherman that day.

The Gasparilla Inn Main Dining Room

The Main Dining Room is open to the public and guests for breakfast and dinner. This will surely be your favorite dining experience on the island!

*Note: Reservations are required for dinner in the Main Dining Room on Friday night. Dress code: sport coats for men.

Things to Do

Historical Bike Tour (1.5 mi.)

Embark on a self-guided 1.5 mile bike tour (click link below for instructions) of Boca Grande's key historical spots, starting at the Gasparilla Inn and ending at the Gasparilla Island Lighthouse at the southernmost tip.

Running & Biking Path

Spanning the entire length of the island, the 7-mile path along the old train tracks is perfect for running or biking.

Boca Grande Beach

Head to the beach for a day of sun, sand, and surf! If you’re staying at the Inn, there’s a private beach at the Beach Club, otherwise, there is plenty of public beach access.

Port Boca Grande Lighthouse & Museum

Located at the southernmost tip of the island, the Boca Grande Lighthouse has a beautiful view and big shoreline to walk along, with tons of wildlife (dolphins, stingrays, fish) that can usually be spotted swimming off-shore. Built in 1890, the lighthouse has a free museum filled with the rich history of Gasparilla Island inside which can be visited Monday - Saturday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Sundays 12 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Gasparilla Adventures

Gasparilla Adventures offers golf cart, bicycle, kayak and paddle board rentals, as well as guided trips leaving daily.  Explore the island's waterways and coves by renting a kayak or paddle board.  We recommend a self-guided Mangrove Tunnel Tour as a great way to see a unique view of Boca Grande!

Banyan Tree Pilates & Yoga

Local island fitness studio where you'll find a variety of classes.

Tarpon Fishing

Boca Grande is perhaps best known as a world-renowned sport-fishing destination. During this time of year, the deep and mile-wide Boca Grande Pass teems with silvery tarpon, as many as 10,000 at any one time, each weighing anywhere from 50 to 200 pounds. The World’s Richest Tarpon Tournament hands out a five-figure prize to the team that reels in the biggest fish each May. The rest of the year, the 39 members of the Boca Grande Fishing Guides Association take out tourists from far-flung corners of the globe to catch saltwater species like redfish, trout, cobia, snapper and grouper.
