Things to Do and See in Austin, TX

Texas Football
The University of Texas plays Kansas State Wildcats on Saturday, November 9th, in downtown Austin. Get your tickets, put on your burnt orange, and enjoy the excitement of Texas football in person!

Mount Bonnell
Put on your sneakers and climb the 100 (give or take) steps up Mount Bonnell for an incredible view of the sun setting over the Colorado River. Tip: Bring a sweet treat (wine) to enjoy at the top while you take in the view, but no glass!

Lady Bird Lake
Lady Bird Lake is right in the middle of the busy city, but the scenery will have you feeling otherwise. Jump on a paddle board or hop into a canoe and get some exercise while you explore one of the many reasons we love Austin. Not feeling that adventurous? There are plenty of trails along Lady Bird Lake for a walk/run, or you can take a romantic dinner cruise on the lake.

Zilker Park
At the juncture of Barton Creek and the Colorado River, Zilker Park is the hub for many recreational activities, and features a hike and bike trail around Lady Bird Lake. Make a picnic or grab lunch to-go and enjoy a view of Austin’s skyline. While you are there, don’t forget to visit the beautiful Zilker Botanical Garden.

Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center
Founded by the former first lady of the United States in 1982, explore the wildflowers and native plants of Texas in the beautiful gardens at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. See how Texas native plants are used to create sustainable landscapes, bring the kids to play in a one-of-a-kind family garden, birdwatch on miles of wildflower-rimmed trails, and explore the stunning architecture reflective of Central Texas.

South Congress Avenue (SoCo District)
Supporting the “Keep Austin Weird” motto, the SoCo District is an eclectic mix of boutiques, restaurants, antiques, galleries, music venues, and just the weird and wonderful. View a list of top spots to check out here, and don’t forget to take a picture in front of the “I Love You So Much” famous wall.

State Capitol
The Texas State Capitol is recognized as a National Historic Landmark and is located on a hilltop overlooking downtown Austin. The easiest way to view the building is to pick up a brochure on the first floor and take a self-guided tour, but there are guided tours if you want to learn about the Capitol from an expert.

Lyndon Baines Johnson (LBJ) Presidential Library
The LBJ Library and Museum is one of 13 presidential libraries across the United States and dedicated to his presidential influence. The LBJ Library and Museum is located on the grounds of the University of Texas and is an interesting and fun interactive exhibit.

Bullock Texas State History Museum
Need to brush up on your Texas history? Learn about the Lone Star State at the Bullock Texas State History Museum. The Bullock Museum also offers a year-round calendar of programs and events and has an IMAX movie theatre.

Two-Step Dance Lessons at the Broken Spoke

Urban Axes
Grab some friends and come experience the fun of throwing 1.5 lb. hatchets at large wooden bullseyes while drinking beer. Essentially, the game closely mirrors the rules of darts, and with minor instructions from the axe throwing experts (their staff), you will be throwing axes like a pro in no time. Urban Axes is BYOB so grab some Texas beers before you get there!

Shop ‘Til You Drop
If you are wanting to do some shopping while visiting, we recommend visiting the
