Airports
The closest airports to St. Malo Beach are:
- SAN: San Diego International Airport (45 min drive)
- SNA: John Wayne Airport (1-1.5 hour drive)
If you are flying in we recommend taking an Uber/Lyft, hopping on the train, or renting a car (if you want to do some exploring around the area). Just a FYI, if you are staying with us in St. Malo you won't need a car to get to any of the events. See further info below in the "Transportation" section:
For those staying in a rental house within the St. Malo Community:
You will not need a car once you get here (unless you want some extra freedom/flexibility to check out the surrounding Oceanside/Carlsbad area). Most restaurants and coffee shops are within a short 5-10 min Uber, if not walking distance. If you are flying into San Diego Airport and choose not to rent a car or Uber, you can take the commuter rail to the train depot in downtown San Diego, where there is an easy Coaster train to the Carlsbad Village or Oceanside stations. Breakfast:
- Beach Break Cafe, 1802 South Coast Highway, Oceanside: your go-to breakfast spot walking distance from St. Malo! Don't forget to have a piece of the coffee cake. :) [15 min walk]
- Cafe Topes, 3091 Roosevelt St, Carlsbad: Trust us - order the "crack and eggs" and if you're a fan of cinnamon buns, order one "dirty"! [11 min Uber]
- Buccaneer Cafe, 1508 S. Pacific Street, Oceanside: Hit up this place for a breakfast burrito or acai bowl on the way back from a morning walk/run to the Oceanside pier and back! [20 min walk]
Lunch:
- Primo Market, 606 Morse St, Oceanside: Grab some quick tacos from the take-out window beside the grocery store, and enjoy at their outdoor tables. Also grab some of their chips and homemade salsas and fresh ceviches from the store before you go! [6 min Uber]
- Local Tap House, 308 S. Coast Hwy, Oceanside: Grab a bite and enjoy a great selection of local craft brews at this casual gastropub. [9 min Uber]
- Swami's Cafe, 2780 Carlsbad Blvd, Carlsbad: Salads? Check. Sandwiches? Check. Burgers? Check. Smoothie and acai bowls? Check. This place has it all and check out the cute town of Carlsbad after you eat. [10 min Uber]
Dinner:
Wrench and Rodent Seabasstropub, 1815 S. Coast Hwy, Oceanside: Yes, the name is totally weird. But the sushi is beyond AMAZING. If you're feeling bold, do the chef's omakase - you can tell them to stop bringing food when you're full. Also walking distance from St. Malo! [15 min walk]
Campfire, 2725 State St, Carlsbad: Great cocktails, innovative wood-fired American food. We love to come here with a group and share everything...including the make-your-own-s'mores! [8 min Uber]
Anita's Mexican Restaurant: 1714 S Coast Hwy, Oceanside. When in San Diego you can never have enough Mexican food! Anita's is within walking distance from St. Malo and has great margaritas. You can't go wrong with anything you order (everything is good!). [15 min walk]
Dija Mara, 232 S Coast Hwy, Oceanside: A Balinese-inspired tapas restaurant, this is a great place for a group! Order everything on the menu and pass it around the table. [9 min Uber]
Cocktails & Bars:
Park 101, 3040 Carlsbad Blvd, Carlsbad: Our absolute favorite place to take Buster and grab a drink any time of the day. This outside bar has lots of craft beers, specialty cocktails and BBQ food if you get hungry. [11 min Uber]
Pacific Coast Spirits, 404 S Coast Hwy, Oceanside: A local San Diego distillery, stop by PCS for hand crafted cocktails, farm to table food and handcrafted spirit flights! [7 min Uber]
Carruth Wine Cellars, 2727 State St #110, Carlsbad: Right next to Campfire restaurant, this is a great place to grab some wine and cheese and enjoy the weather in their outside/inside tasting room. Their Rose is our favorite! [8 min Uber]
