While Kalmar has its own airport, it is a regional airport that at the time of writing only serves two hub airports: Stockholm (daily) and Frankfurt (3 times per week: Sun, Tuesday & Thursday).
If you connect in either of these cities this airport is extremely convenient. It is just a 10-minute drive to the wedding venue and 15 mins by train to the city centre.
This is a major international hub airport. If you decide to fly here, you can rent a car or take a train to Kalmar.
It is worth noting that it is in Denmark, a bridge connects it to Sweden for cars and trains.
Copenhagen is a beautiful city. It is definitely worth spending a day or two if you are considering it.

Stockholm has three airports. The main international airport is Arlanda. Bromma and Skavsta are smaller airports that are unlikely to serve you.
Stockholm is a little further from Kalmar than Copenhagen. However, it is also well connected by road and rail.
It is also a beautiful city and worth spending some time there if you are considering it.

For the latest on any restrictions on entering Sweden and returning to your home country, we suggest checking keeping an eye on the sherpa website. It has all the latest info.
At the time of writing, Sweden and Denmark have no restrictions on entering the country.
The US requires a negative test to re-enter. If in the US, you can buy a self test here that you do over a video call. You can also do an antigen test at Copenhagen and Stockholm airports and have results in 15-30 minutes.
- Almost everyone speaks English, but it is easy to say Hello in Swedish just say "Hey" (hej). And thank you is just as easy and used very often, "Tack".
- Alcohol is sold exclusively by the state at the Systembolaget (10am-6pm Mon-Fri, 10am-3pm Sat, Closed Sunday). Only weak beer is available at the grocery store/supermarket.
- No need to bring Swedish money (SEK, known as crowns). It's mostly cashless. Everyone uses cards and phones to pay. If offered the choice to pay in SEK or your home currency on a card machine, always opt for the local currency, SEK. The exchange rate is terrible if you pay in your home currency.
- Sunrise in Kalmar at the time of the year is about 4am and sunset is about 10pm. A sleep mask is a good idea to pack just in case your room isn't as dark as you would like.
